Response to a Campus Columnist
by Lee

Tonight I came across a column in the Oregon State Barometer by a young woman named Emily Wheeland.  According to the byline she is a regular columnist in the paper.  On this particular week she penned a column titled
More Michael Moore, please!
Being the Michael Moore fan that I am I was intrigued to read a student’s opinion.  What follows is my response to Ms. Wheelands column.

The Kingmaker Speaks
by Lee

Former RINO and current self-aggrandizing kingmaker, Senator “Jumpin’” Jim Jeffords of Vermont, has slammed the Bush environmental record.

President Bush has moved the nation backward on environmental issues by weakening clean air and water laws, Sen. James Jeffords said in the Democrats’ weekly radio response aired Saturday. [emaphasis added]

“The Bush administration has continued its pattern of sacrificing our environment to the demands of special interests,” said Jeffords, outgoing chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. [emphasis added]

“This year the power industry is getting a nice Christmas gift, the biggest weakening of the Clean Air Act in history,” said the Vermont senator, an independent who generally associates himself with the Democrats.[emphasis added]

Democrats awarded Jeffords with the chairmanship of the environment committee after he left the Republican Party in June 2001 to become an independent, a move that gave Democrats control of the Senate. He will lose that position in January when Republicans again become the majority party following gains in the midterm election. [emphasis added]

Could this guy be any more transparent?  Especially in light of the fact that the gutless coward wants to be a Republican again.

A Reader on Moore
by Lee

A left-wing reader named leftbanker left the following comment after the post Give Thanks for Mikey.  Unlike most of the lefties who leave comments here leftbanker seems to actually have a brain in his head, so I thought I’d put my response in its own post.

Heyyyy… Nice Beaver!
by Lee

Blogs of War is reporting that the animal rights nuts over at Fur Kills have posted the email address of Gerald Sampson, the president of Neiman Marcus.  They’re requesting that people contact Mr. Sampson (translation: threaten the animal-killing nazi with violence) to protest his company’s selling of fur coats. BoW thinks it would be a great idea for the non-idiot world to contact Mr. Sampson as well, and I totally agree.  Here’s his email address:  gerald_sampson@neimanmarcus.com.  Let’s let Mr. Sampson know that we support his right to continue to sell a legal product, and that we especially support his stand against the animal rights wackos.

Canada, the Gun Free Utopia
by Lee

If you saw Michael Moore’s Bowling for Columbine you might have come away with the idea that Canada has as many guns as America yet they have virtually no gun crime.  As with just about anything that comes out of Moore’s mouth that turns out to be untrue.

I’ll give 10 Brownie points to anyone who can tell me why the Zsa Zsa Gabor post is named what it is.  Leave a comment here with your answers.

Terrorism, eh?
by Lee

Canada’s policy of not banning the terrorist organization Hezbollah is not sitting well with some Canadians.

Sullivan on Thanksgiving

Andrew Sullivan has a brilliant, poignant essay on Thanksgiving.  Take a moment and read it.

You Know Who Owns That Hedge?
by Lee

There has to be a tasteless joke in here somewhere.

Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was hospitalized and in a coma Thursday after a car she was riding in struck a light pole on Sunset Boulevard, a family spokesman said.

Gabor suffered multiple broken bones, cuts and bruises and was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said Gerd Birkmann, a spokesman for her husband, Frederic von Anhalt.

“The worst injuries are to her head,” Birkmann said from Germany.

Perhaps she should have worn her Zseatbelt.

Rotting in a Cave
by Lee

The Toronto Star is reporting that Swiss audio experts have determined that the recent audio tape does not feature the voice of Osama bin Laden.

The latest audiotape statement attributed to accused terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden is not authentic, a Swiss research institute said.

The Lausanne-based Dalle Molle Institute for Perceptual Artificial Intelligence said it is 95-per-cent certain the tape does not feature the voice of the long-absent terrorist leader.

As much as I hate to agree with the left wing, I honestly believe that US intelligence knows that this tape is bullshit, yet they are saying they believe he is alive as part of some sort of disinformation campaign.  Whether this campaign is aimed at the American public or at the terrorists themselves, I don’t know.  But I do believe that it will be a lot easier for Bush to sell the attack on Iraq if the public still thinks the Boogeyman is hiding under the bed.

How To Talk Dirty and Influence People
by Lee

I’m going to do something in this post that I never thought I would do, and that’s disagree with Eugene Volokh.  Before you continue, read this post, and then this one regarding the usefulness of invective in blog posts.  Volokh’s central premise is thus:

But I don’t think undermines my original point, which is that invective (at least on Web logs) is likely to lead to “ideological cocooning”—likely to “increase people’s predisposition to talk to and listen to only those views that they generally agree with, and to simply ignore other views.” My main assertion was that most people have a particularly strong tendency to ignore views that they disagree with and that are presented rudely. That means they might well go to an insult-filled blog that insults people they think deserve insult; and thus an insult-filled blog may be effective at communicating to those who already mostly agree with it (again, I’m not sure that it will be, but it’s possible). But it won’t be effective at persuading people who are in the middle or on the other side.

I’m going to have to disagree with the prof here—politely, of course. :)

Killing Jews in Africa
by Lee

It appears that followers of the Religion of Peace have attacked Israelis in Kenya.  From the Jerusalem Post:

An explosion went off Thursday in a hotel filled with Israeli guests in Mombasa, Kenya, and at about the same time a missile was fired toward an Israeli aircraft taking off from Mombasa, Israel’s Foreign Ministry and media reports said.

The aircraft belonging to the Arkia charter company was lightly damaged, but no one aboard was hurt, Israel TV’s Channel Two said. The aircraft, with 260 passengers and 10 crew members aboard, had initially prepared for an emergency landing in Nairobi, but then decided to continue to Israel.

Between this and the Miss World pageant riots perhaps the world will start to see the Religion of Peace for exactly what it is.  I doubt it.

Give Thanks for Mikey
by Lee

What am I thankful for?  Good friends, being healthy, and Michael Moore crawling out from his hole and posting a new Mike’s Message.

Dear Friends,

Believe me, Mike, not everyone who reads your posts is your friend.

It is Thanksgiving 2002 and it would seem that there is little to give thanks for this year. W. has scored an unbelievable hat trick and is now the first Republican since Eisenhower to control the House, the Senate and the White House.

NO, NO, NO!!!!  Why is it so damn hard for the left to remember the election of 2000?  It was just two years ago that a Republican president had a Republican House and Senate.  (Contrary to Mike’s insinuations, Bush does not control the House and Senate.) It was only due to the defection of self-aggrandizing kingmaker Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords that the Democrats managed to wrest control of the Senate in the first place.

So, how often has this lie been repeated?  First we had the major media saying it during the last election.  Then Senator Christopher Dodd said it on Face the Nation.  And now, we have Mikey.  I wonder who the next leftie will be to spew this crap?  Thankfully the voters of this country remembered who they voted into office, because they re-voted them in the first opportunity they got.

The World’s Greatest Stuffing Recipe
by Lee

In case you haven’t finalized your Thanksgiving plans yet, here’s the stuffing I will be preparing.  My mom got this recipe from somewhere, and it’s been universally hailed by all who eat it as the greatest ever.  You should give it a try sometime.

Happy Thanksgiving
by Lee

I just wanted to drop everyone a line to have a great Thanksgiving.  Since I’m not going home until Christmas I’ll be around every now and then over the holiday with a post or two.  If you get a minute, stop on by and say hi.  And thanks for making this blog grow faster than I ever thought possible.  In just over three months I’ve had almost 20,000 page views, which is just phenomenal.  Have a happy Turkey Day!
