Dutch Justice
by Lee

Van Gogh’s killer is heading to the slammer for the rest of his worthless life.

Mohammed Bouyeri, 27, a Dutch-born Islamic radical, has been jailed for life for murdering the film-maker Theo van Gogh in November in what the Amsterdam court said was an act of terrorism (Anthony Browne writes). With no parole under Dutch law he will die behind bars. Judge Udo Willem Bentinck told Amsterdam district court that Mr van Gogh was “mercilessly slaughtered”.

His half-hour judgment said that Bouyeri tried to undermine Dutch society and democracy, and “intended to instill fear in the population. The court therefore concludes that the terrorist element had been proved”.

Bouyeri shot Mr van Gogh, a fierce critic of Islam, in daylight in the streets of Amsterdam, then nearly decapitated him and impaled a five-page note declaring holy war on the Netherlands into his chest. He was covered in blood when caught by police after a gun battle.

The killing led to religious violence with tit-for-tat attacks against mosques and churches. Police uncovered multiple terrorism networks with international links.

Amazing, isn’t it, that the Religion of Peace™ would turn out to be, well, not peaceful at all.

Pataki Attacki
by Lee

The governor is outta there.

NY1 News has learned that George Pataki will announce Wednesday that he will not seek a fourth term as governor of New York State.

Sources tell NY1 that Pataki will make the announcement Wednesday afternoon in Albany.

The governor will also outline some of the initiatives he wants to focus on during the remainder of his current term, sources say.

NY1 reported back in March that Pataki was not likely to run again.

The governor has been tight-lipped about his future plans, despite pressure from some state Republicans to make a decision in the face of Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s candidacy.

Spitzer, a Democrat, announced in December that he would seek the governorship.

I can’t believe that he would leave office without the goal of assuming some higher position.  He’s either going to run for president or take on Hillary in 2006.  My guess:  Pataki vs. the Hildebeast.

Fighting Back
by Lee

The Armed Groups™ have struck again.

Gunmen have killed at least 12 Iraqi workers travelling home by bus from a factory in the western outskirts of the capital, Baghdad.
The attackers followed two buses as they left the government-owned company in the Abu Ghraib area, a security official was quoted as saying.

Hospital officials said 32 people had been injured in the attack.

Insurgents have been targeting Iraqis believed to be working for the US-backed government.

The latest attack targeted the employees of a firm owned by the ministry of industry and minerals, security official Barakat al-Khazraji was quoted by the Associated Press news agency as saying.

They were heading home to Baghdad’s Shia neighbourhoods of Sadr City and Shula, said a police sergeant, Ahmed Ali said.

Police put the death toll at 12 but hospital sources said the final number could be as high as 17.

Horrified, Amnesty International has pulled out the proverbial “big guns” and begun drafting an even stronger memo.  “We’re not going to stand by while these armed groups continue to target innocent civilians,” said a spokesperson.  “We plan on issuing stronger and sterner memos until these armed groups learn that we will not be silenced.  Oh, and Bush = Hitler.”

The State Knows Best
by Lee

You know, protecting kids is one thing, but this shit is ridiculous.

Parents who were charged with child abuse last August have been exonerated and reunited with their children.

Charbel Hamaty was charged with sexually assaulting his newborn son, and Teresa Hamaty was arrested for taking sexually explicit pictures.

The couple describe the ordeal as a “nightmare” that started over a roll of film that Charbel Hamaty dropped off at a north Raleigh Eckerd.

The photo that raised alarms shows a naked Kristoff, now 16-months-old, getting a kiss from his father on the belly button, Teresa Hamaty said.

When the photos were shown to the police, the couple was arrested, and Kristoff was put in protective custody, while his half-sister, Victoria, was handed over to her birth father.

Teresa Hamaty was released on bond, but wasn’t allowed contact with her children for months.

Charbel Hamaty spent six months in prison before the charges were dropped because of a report submitted by an expert saying there was no criminal intent in the photos.

It took them SIX MONTHS to figure out that a guy blowing a raspberry on his kid’s belly didn’t have a criminal intent?  What kind of “expert” is required for this?  If I was this guy I would sue the living shit out of the police and the prosecutor.  This is absolutely outrageous.  In our understandable zeal to protect kids we have given an unbelievable amount of power to the legal system and social workers, and often times these people abuse these powers in order to justify their own existence.  We need to work to make sure that this doesn’t happen again, because as far as I’m concerned this is as much of an offense as someone molesting his child.  These kids had their family destroyed for six months because some numbnuts couldn’t tell that a guy was blowing a raspberry on his kid’s belly?

Beating Spam
by Lee

Sometimes you have to stand back and admire the justice inherent in some forms of brutality.

Vardan Kushnir, notorious for sending spam to each and every citizen of Russia who appeared to have an e-mail, was found dead in his Moscow apartment on Sunday, Interfax reported Monday. He died after suffering repeated blows to the head.

Kushnir, 35, headed the English learning centers the Center for American English, the New York English Centre and the Centre for Spoken English, all known to have aggressive Internet advertising policies in which millions of e-mails were sent every day.

Come on, admit it.  Every one of us has wanted top beat a spammer to death at some point in our lives, right?  Well, live vicariously through this one.

Legal Stiffy
by Lee

A whole bunch of bloodsucking mass tort lawyers just got throbbing erections because of Viagra, but not how you think.

Health Canada is advising men who take drugs for impotence and erectile dysfunction to seek immediate medical attention if they experience vision problems.

Users of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are at risk of a rare side-effect called nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, or NAION, caused when blood flow to the optic nerve is blocked.

Symptoms include sudden and painless loss of vision in one or both eyes. Those who experience one episode are at greater risk of experiencing a second episode affecting the other eye.

While in some cases the condition may improve over time, it can also be irreversible.

You can expect the first lawsuits to be filed, oh, in ten or fifteen minutes.

Smart or Insane?
by Lee

Elizabeth might have been smart, but her kidnapper is nuts.

A judge this afternoon declared Brian David Mitchell incompetent to stand trial in the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case.

Third District Judge Judith Atherton issued her decision today in a 60-page report.

The judge says Mitchell has some understanding of right and wrong, but is under religious delusions that make him incompetent to stand trial.

A year ago Mitchell was declared competent, but because of his court room antics, such as bursting into song and quoting scriptures, the judge ordered another competency hearing.

Mitchell was charged with abducting Elizabeth Smart in June 2002. Wanda Barzee, the accused accomplice in the case, has previously been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

Atherton committed him to a state prison for “treatment intended to restore the defendant to competency.”

I could be mistaken, but I believe that they want to restore him to competency so that they can subsequently try and convict him.

Equivalency International
by Lee

I can’t think of a better example of left-wing moral equivalency when it comes to terrorism than this press release from Amnesty International.

Armed groups opposed to the US-led multinational force and Iraq’s government are showing utter disdain for the lives of Iraqi civilians and others, continuing a pattern of war crimes and crimes against humanity, Amnesty International said in a new report published today.

At the end of one of the worst months that saw some of the highest number of killings by armed groups since the beginning of the war in Iraq in March 2003, Amnesty International denounced the armed groups’ failure to abide by even the most basic standards of humanitarian law and said there can be no valid justification for deliberate killings of civilians, hostage-taking, and torture and killing of defenceless prisoners.

“Those who order or commit such atrocities place themselves totally beyond the pale of acceptable behaviour,” said Amnesty International. “There is no honour nor heroism in blowing up people going to pray or murdering a terrified hostage. Those carrying out such acts are criminals, nothing less, whose actions undermine any claim they may have to be pursuing a legitimate cause. ”

“Armed groups.” How do you like that shit.  Murderous scumbags who specifically target women and children aren’t terrorists.  Vile fascist vermin who kidnap and behead innocent civilian contractors aren’t terrorists.  Subhuman filth who kill anyone trying to turn Iraq into a democracy by serving as police or military aren’t terrorists.  No, my friends, these are “armed groups.” Of course, the US detention center at Gitmo is a “gulag.” They have no problem stating the evil of that place using loaded, inflammatory language.  But call a terrorist a terrorist?  Perish the thought.  To do so would, well, require them to place the Islamists on a lower plane than the fascist Amerikkkan occupiers, and that simply can’t be permitted.

In its 56-page report, Iraq, In Cold Blood: Abuses by Armed Groups, Amnesty International recognises that many Iraqis oppose the continuing presence of US and allied forces in their country, and that these forces have themselves committed grave violations, including killings of civilians and torture of prisoners.

“But abuses committed by one side do not and can not justify abuses by another,” said Amnesty International. “This is all the more the case when the principal victims are ordinary Iraqi men, women and children attempting peacefully to go about their everyday lives. All sides to the ongoing conflict have a fundamental obligation to respect the rights of civilians or of those who are rendered defenceless. Those who breach this obligation, on which ever side they stand, must be made to stop and they must be held to account.”

In other words, the Americans and other allies who are fighting and dying over there right now to try and stabilize Iraq and turn it into the Middle East’s first democracy are on an equal plane with the vile terrorist scum who are actively targeting civilians, women and children, police, politicians, or anyone else opposed to letting Iraq fall into the chaos of another Islamist dictatorship.

And Amnesty International wonders why so many people in America completely ignore them.  Here’s why.  When an organization that purports to exist under the guise of human rights is so vapidly unable to refer to terrorism as terrorism, then their opinion is absolutely worthless.

“We urge armed groups to immediately cease all attacks against civilians and all other abuses” said Amnesty International. “Armed groups, like other parties to the conflict in Iraq, are required to comply strictly with international law in all their acts and remain accountable for their actions.”

Gee whiz, why didn’t we think of this before?  The solution to terrorism isn’t to, you know, kill the terrorists before they can kill you.  No, it’s to point out that the terrorists are violating international law!  And that if they don’t stop violating international law, Amnesty International will issue… a press release! Because if there’s one thing that terrifies men so warped by their religious dogma that they are willing to kill and die for their cause it’s international law.

“Aziz!  We must not blow up that bus full of infidel Jew schoolchildren.  Amnesty International will denounce us for it!”

“Muhammad, you are correct!  Despite the Koran telling us that it is our sworn Islamic duty to convert or kill all infidels, the thought of a press release by Amnesty International is a risk that Allah cannot expect us to take.  Come, let us go and get real jobs.”

Realistic Bias
by Lee

What liberal media?  Drudge is linking to this story about former terrorism expert and Bush critic Richard Clarke’s new fiction novel.

The realistic geopolitical thriller is set five years in the future as oil-hungry forces in Washington are ready to reshape the map of the Middle East to further their own ends by launching a global nuclear war. The plot involves a fictional takeover of the House of Saud by extremists.

Realistic?  On what fucking planet is that story realistic?  The House of Saud being taken over by extremists I can see, but “oil-hungry forces” willing to use nukes on the Middle East?  This is realistic?  I’ve got a realistic scenario for a book I’m working on.  It’s about a reporter so blinded by her own dogmatic left-wing idiocy that they put value judgments and loaded words into a story about a fiction book.

Oh, that liberal media.

Everyone Loves A Good Faggot
by Lee

You have to love the English sometimes.

A West Midlands family is playing a central role in the quest to raise the profile of a forgotten British dish - faggots.

The Doody family from Wolverhampton has been crowned The Faggot Family in a national competition, and to kick off their reign they will launch National Faggot Week.

The family will be touring the country extolling the virtues of the dish, which is best-known for its links with the Black Country. … The competition was organised by faggot producer Mr Brain’s Faggots.

The “Doody” family is looking to promote “faggots,” which involves the “Black Country.” James Dobson, Pat Robertson, and the rest of the family values lunatics would come unglued at the rampant homosexual subtext.

My Anaconda Don’t Want None
by Lee

Normally I don’t post stuff like this that people send me, but this one came from my brother.  The story that goes along with it was that it was a worked on an oil rig in the Amazon who fell asleep.  The story is probably bullshit, but the pictures sure look real.  You be the judge.

Update: Thanks to the 46 people who sent me the link to the Snopes page overnight.  Allow me to state that, yes, the first thing I did was try Snopes.  I must have put a typo into the search box because I didn’t come up with anything.  The reason I never post stuff like this is that it usually turns out to be a hoax, and this is probably the case here.  There’s also more info on these photos here.

Snubbing the Jews?
by Lee

A papal oversight, or something more sinister?  You decide.

Israel has summoned the Vatican’s ambassador to explain why the Pope left the country off a list of those recently hit by terrorism.
Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday deplored attacks in “countries including Egypt, Turkey, Iraq and Britain”.

Israel said he had failed to mention a 12 July suicide bombing in Netanya that killed five Israelis.

The foreign ministry said it would be interpreted as “granting legitimacy to… terrorist attacks against Jews”.

“We expected that the new Pope, who on taking office emphasised the importance he places on relations between the Church and the Jewish people, would behave differently,” the ministry said in a statement.

I don’t think the importance of official Vatican support for Israel can be understated, even though it is largely symbolic.  Hopefully this is merely an accidental omission on their part and not any kind of policy shift on the part of the new Pope.

Seven In One Blow
by Lee

I told you the British cops were going to get it bad over that shooting.  And thus it begins.

THE innocent Brazilian man gunned down by police at Stockwell Underground station on Friday was killed by seven shots to the head and one to the shoulder, a coroner’s inquest heard yesterday.

It had previously been reported that five shots to the head killed Jean Charles de Menezes, whose only link to those suspected of attempting to bomb London’s Underground network last Thursday was that he lived in the same block of flats as one of them.

His killing has put Britain’s “shoot-to-kill” policy under the spotlight, with British Muslim politicians expressing concern yesterday that other innocent people - particularly illegal asylum seekers - might end up being shot by police.

And then there’s this.

Lord Nazir Ahmed of Rotherham said that police must act within the “parameters of reasonableness”, after Mr de Menezes became a victim of the controversial strategy. It has been claimed that he may have been running from police because his visa had expired.

Lord Ahmed said many Muslims were concerned they might fall victim to the police policy. He said: “We know that we have about 500,000 or so illegal immigrants. If any one of them was challenged by a police officer, they would certainly run.

“I am not suggesting for one minute that an illegal asylum seeker has the right to stay here, but he is not the same as a suicide bomber.” He added that police needed to ensure that mistakes were not repeated.

I have two responses to that.  First, if illegal immigrants are summoned by police they should be prepared to be detained, because if they run they run the risk of being assumed a terrorist and shot.  Secondly, how the hell are police supposed to know that someone isn’t a suicide bomber?  It’s incumbent on the individual in times like these to cut the police a little leeway while they try to do their job.  This Brazilian asshole did exactly the opposite and paid for it with his life.  Of course, none of this would be necessary if Lord Ahmed’s brethren in the Religion of Peace™ weren’t running around blowing up innocent civilians, but that’s beside the point, isn’t it?  And then there’s the family of the victim.

He said: “They have to pay for that in many ways because if they do not, they are going to kill many people; they are going to kill thousands of people. They just kill the first person they see; that’s what they did. They killed my cousin; they could kill anyone.”

And there you have it.  They can kill anyone.

Mr de Menezes had given relatives a glowing report of life in the United Kingdom in a visit to Brazil soon after moving to the country. “They don’t have violence,” he had said. “It’s good there. Nobody walks around with a gun.” Mr Pereira held meetings yesterday with a Brazilian minister, Celso Amorim, and a lawyer, Gareth Peirce, to discuss potential action.

Nobody legally walks around with a gun.  They just walk around with bombs strapped to them, and this guy’s cousin did everything but walk into the station wearing an I AM A TERRORIST t-shirt.  The fact that anyone loses their life in this manner is tragic, but I do think that the Brazilian shares quite a bit of the blame for it.

Mr. Blasty the Babysitter
by Lee

When will the gun-crazy Americans learn that if you own a firearm someone in your family is 43 times more likely to die from it?  Why won’t they join the enlightened ranks of people who manage to live without guns, like New Zealand.

A Reporoa man has appeared in court over an accidental shooting by his young son during a pig hunt.

Albert Hurihanganui could face up to three years in prison after pleading guilty to careless use of a firearm.

But he has asked the court to consider restorative justice.

Hurihanganui’s six-year-old shot his 10-year-old cousin in April when their fathers left them with a loaded rifle while retrieving a pig.

Police said it was a miracle the 10-year-old survived his stomach injuries after the six-year-old fired the rifle at point blank range.

Fearing that a similar incident could also take place within their borders, Australia, New Zealand’s closest neighbor, has introduced a bill in Parliament that would outlaw pigs forever.  Australia’s Muslim community immediately hailed the legislation, and requested that it be followed up with similar bills outlawing Jews and unveiled women.
