Union Jackoff
by Lee

As Michael Moore never tires of telling us, unions are important because they fight for better pay for workers.  When you pay them your dues every month, you know that your money is being well spent to ensure that you have a job with good pay and benefits, and that you’re protected against the evil greedy corporate capitalist machine.  As he wrote in Stupid White Men,

If you are a worker, and not a boss, who considers himself a conservative and hates unions, I have one question: why? If you want to make more money, “union” is the way to go. According to the US department of labour, union workers make an average of $717 a week. Non-union workers like you make an average of $573 a week. Being a conservative is about you and you making as much money as you can. So why stay non-union?

So it was with great interest that I read this morning’s Wall Street Journal editorial.

If we told you that an organization gave away more than $65 million last year to Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Amnesty International, AIDS Walk Washington and dozens of other such advocacy groups, you’d probably assume we were describing a liberal philanthropy. In fact, those expenditures have all turned up on the financial disclosure report of the National Education Association, the country’s largest teachers union. …

We already knew that the NEA’s top brass lives large. Reg Weaver, the union’s president, makes $439,000 a year. The NEA has a $58 million payroll for just over 600 employees, more than half of whom draw six-figure salaries. Last year the average teacher made only $48,000, so it seems you’re better off working as a union rep than in the classroom.
Many of the organization’s disbursements--$30,000 to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, $122,000 to the Center for Teaching Quality--at least target groups that ostensibly have a direct educational mission. But many others are a stretch, to say the least. The NEA gave $15,000 to the Human Rights Campaign, which lobbies for “lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equal rights.” The National Women’s Law Center, whose Web site currently features a “pocket guide” to opposing Supreme Court nominee Sam Alito, received $5,000. And something called the Fund to Protect Social Security got $400,000, presumably to defeat personal investment accounts.

The new disclosure rules mark the first revisions since 1959 and took effect this year. “What wasn’t clear before is how much of a part the teachers unions play in the wider liberal movement and the Democratic Party,” says Mike Antonucci of the Education Intelligence Agency, a California-based watchdog group. “They’re like some philanthropic organization that passes out grant money to interest groups.”

When liberals want to project an image of a dedicated, hard-working employee who works for terrible wages, they often trot out teachers.  Well, here’s the largest national teacher’s union pissing away $65 million dollars on left wing causes.  I wonder how much better the lives of teachers would be if this union had put this money to the use with which it was given, namely securing better wages and benefits for teachers?  What possible reason could there be for this union to donate this much money to these types of causes, when they have nothing to do with the stated purpose of the union?  And, given that there are undoubtedly countless numbers of teachers in this country who don’t share the political leanings of the union brass, why should dues be taken every month from union members who have no interest in supporting these causes?  If the NEA has an extra $65 million lying around, why not give it back to the teachers, and let the teachers themselves donate it to whatever causes or charities they choose, or let them (gasp!) spend it on themselves.

Why stay non-union?  Because unions are corrupt and useless, and this is just the latest example of what an anachronism they have become.  They’re not about protecting workers, they’re about protecting their own existence.

Gay Be Jesus
by Lee

And the secret war war to destroy Jesus, as evidenced recently by the alleged “War on Christmas”, has now spread to the Australian Post Office which featured a stamp of Mary and the Baby Jesus, with the infant Savior wearing… pink!

A row has developed over a baby Jesus dressed in pink depicted on Australia Post’s Christmas stamps.

While Australia Post says the stamps are spreading a message of peace and love, some Bendigo residents believe the image may have a more sinister message.

Flora Hill resident Richard Fayle said he was fearful of what hidden message could be behind the stamp.

‘It looks very suspect,’ he said.

‘I’m concerned Australia Post is putting out the impression that Jesus was bisexual.

‘What other way can you look at it – you dress your boy in blue and your girl in pink.’

Mr Fayle said he was not alone in having concerns about the stamp.

‘That’s the attitude I get when I show it to people.

‘I’m not saying they did this intentionally, but it’s a faux pas as far as I’m concerned.

‘When was the last time you saw a boy in a pram dressed in pink?

‘People do things in round about sorts of ways to give messages that are not as distinct as they should be.’

Just think if they’d have given him a triangle halo.  Jerry Falwell’s head would have exploded.

The Old MS Quality
by Lee

I’ll let this speak for itself.

Computer security experts were grappling with the threat of a newweakness in Microsoft’s Windows operating system that could put hundreds of millions of PCs at risk of infection by spyware or viruses. … Unlike most attacks, which require victims to download or execute a suspect file, the new vulnerability makes it possible for users to infect their computers with spyware or a virus simply by viewing a web page, e-mail or instant message that contains a contaminated image.

“We haven’t seen anything that bad yet, but multiple individuals and groups are exploiting this vulnerability,” [Mikko Hyppönen, chief research officer at F-Secure, an antivirus company] said. He said that every Windows system shipped since 1990 contained the flaw.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

El Apologia
by Lee

Only in California.

It was 1931. The administration of President Herbert Hoover backed a policy that would repatriate hundreds of thousands of Mexican Americans, more than half of them United States citizens.

Amid the economic desperation of the Depression, Latino families were viewed as taking jobs and government benefits from “real Americans.” In Los Angeles County, a Citizens Committee for Coordination for Unemployment Relief urgently warned of 400,000 “deportable aliens,” declaring: “We need their jobs for needy citizens.”

Up to 2 million people of Mexican ancestry were relocated to Mexico during the 1930s, even though as many as 1.2 million were born in the United States. In California, some 400,000 Latino United States citizens or legal residents were forced to leave.

Now California, for its part, wants to say it is sorry.

On Sunday, Senate Bill 670 - the so-called “Apology Act for the 1930s Mexican Repatriation Program” - becomes official. It acknowledges the suffering of tens of thousands of Latino families unjustly forced out of the Golden State that was their home.

“The state of California apologizes ... for the fundamental violations of their basic civil liberties and constitutional rights during the period of illegal deportation and coerced emigration,” the act reads.

The state hopes that by issuing this apology Mexicans will finally want to come here.

Everyone = Hitler
by Lee

They don’t make ‘em like Winston Churchill any more.

Documents made public in Britain show the Allies in the Second World War were considering killing Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler if they caught him alive.

Historian Gillian Bennett says a secret cabinet debate recorded by the then secretary, Norman Brook, has just been released from the National Archives.

“There was one in July, 1942, where Churchill actually says that if they got hold of Hitler, they would kill him immediately,” she said.

“He did suggest that this man was a gangster - he wasn’t a proper leader and therefore, if he did fall into British hands, Churchill said they would put him to death.

“He even joked that perhaps they could get hold of an electric chair from the Americans under Lend Lease in order to put him to death.”

If Churchill were alive today and said this, they’d be holding up signs saying “Churchill = Hitler”.  Can you imagine what it would be like to be a liberal of today back in 1942?  “Churchill = Hitler for wanting to execute Hitler!”

One of Lee’s undeniable truths of life:  For liberals, eventually everyone = Hitler.

A Whale of a Time
by Lee

From the “You can’t make this shit up” file…

The Japanese whaling fleet is out hunting for whales.  As expected, the environmentalist lunatics are out in full force to prevent that from happening.  The only problem is that there are only so many whales, and two rival environmental groups want the credit for saving the whales.

The animal rights protector Captain Paul Watson, who co-founded Greenpeace in the 1970s and later set up the more radical Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, was also in pursuit of the fleet yesterday in his ship, the Farley Mowat. Capt Watson, who accuses Greenpeace of being “the Avon ladies of the environment” and of being more interested in publicity than in enforcing international law, intercepted the Nisshin Maru factory ship on Christmas Day. Each environmental group now accuses the other of endangering lives by trying to ram its vessels.

Sea Shepherd had requested the presence of the Australian navy to monitor events in the Southern Ocean, but Australia’s environment minister, Ian Campbell, said that Sea Shepherd’s threats to attack the fleet “risk setting back the cause of whale conservation many years”.

Capt Watson said yesterday: “Stop threatening us, Mr Campbell, and charge us if you believe we are acting unlawfully. Stop posing for the Japanese [who] are in blatant violation of international conservation laws.”

Despite a short truce at Christmas in which the captains swapped greetings, Capt Watson and Greenpeace were at daggers drawn again yesterday with Sea Shepherd accusing the larger group of refusing to say where the Japanese fleet was.

“Greenpeace has misled Sea Shepherd and betrayed us. The Japanese fleet does not give a damn about protests. [Greenpeace] just take pictures and hang banners. We are down here to enforce international conservation law and to stop the illegal whaling operations.”

Greenpeace retorted: “Greenpeace distance themselves from Sea Shepherd because of their inability to commit to non-violent tactics. But we’ll do what we can to put bodies between harpoons and whales and protect the whales non-violently,” said its spokesman Danny Kennedy. Capt Watson yesterday warned Greenpeace that Japan had dispatched a warship to the Southern Ocean to protect its whaling fleet and arrest the conservationists for piracy. This could not be confirmed.

“I love the whales more.”
“No, I love the whales more.”
“Like hell you do!  Nobody loves the fucking whales more than me.”
“Oh yeah?  Just watch this!  I’ll show you who loves the goddamned whales!”
“Fuck you, man!  We’ll see just how much you love the whales with my Birkenstock shoved up your ass.”
“Oh no you di-int!”
“You bet I did, man.”
“Listen, dickhead.  Just say it one more fucking time, that you love the whales more than me.  Go on, I double dog dare you!”
“I… love… the… whales… more… than… you.”
“Man, it’s a good thing I’m a Buddhist, because otherwise I’d be kicking your ass right now.”
“Yeah?  You don’t have the balls.”
“Hey, that’s a sexist remark!  You’re implying that only men can be brave!”
“Okay, okay, that was out of line.  But that doesn’t matter, because when it comes to loving the whales, you aren’t even fit to curdle my tofu.”

Fucking liberal idiots.  There’s nothing like sitting down with a nice steaming bowl of whale meat and watching two left-wingers go at it.

Home Sweet Home

To paraphrase Dennis Miller from his Weekend Update days, that’s the holidays and I… am… outta here!  Off to the airport, next stop will be glorious, smoggy, crime-infested Los Angeles.

Women Who Love Old Women
by Lee

Someone just visited this site via a Google search for Ellen Degeneres Portia DeRossi.  Intrigued, I discovered that I’m actually the fourth most popular return for that search string, for this post.  I bring this up because, if I do say so myself, this one contains a couple of great lines.  To wit:

You know how when you buy a pear at the supermarket there’s about a 20 minute period between when you purchase it and when it starts to go all bruised and bad?  Well, that’s Sharon Stone’s career in a nutshell.

And then there was this one.

Seriously, can you imagine anything you would rather see LESS than Sharon Stone in a lesbian scene?  I remember that lesbian scene she did on HBO with Ellen Degeneres.  It was like watching two old sweatsocks in a tumble dryer.

I have to admit, I’m a pretty fucking funny guy sometimes.
