Can You Hear Me Now?

As before, we see that good will always triumph because evil is dumb:

A “Black Widow” suicide bomber planned a terrorist attack in central Moscow on New Year’s Eve but was killed when an unexpected text message set off her bomb too early, according to Russian security sources.

The unnamed woman, who is thought to be part of the same group that struck Moscow’s Domodedovo airport on Monday, intended to detonate a suicide belt near Red Square on New Year’s Eve in an attack that could have killed hundreds.

Security sources believe a message from her mobile phone operator wishing her a happy new year received just hours before the planned attack triggered her suicide belt, killing her at a safe house.

Apparently, using cell phones in this fashion is pretty common.  It’s not clear how many terrorist have figured out the “do not call” thing.

We’ve heard stories like this before: from terrorists setting off bombers with group hugs to terrorists poisoning or exploding themselves trying to assemble bombs (the latter being the pinnacle achievement of the Weather Underground).  I realize this might have gone very badly had she been successful in her attack.  But I think of some ideology-addled idiot sitting in a safe house and the moment of panic that must have hit in the split second between the ring tone and the explosion, I can’t help but laugh.  It sounds like something out of the Simpsons:

Terrorist 1: Hold on.  I just want to send a message to Osama wishing him good luck on his suicide bomb.  {Hits ‘send’.  Explosion in distance} Oh, yeah, right.  Um ... we got any more volunteers?

And these guys think they’re going to take over the world.
