Is it April first today?

That’s what I thought when I saw that WaPo’s “Outlook” section had an article today - April 18th, tax day 2011 - by Walter Mondale of all people, entitled ”How to Raise Taxes Without Losing Votes”. Walter Mondale? The moron that lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan in 1984 after he got caught telling his VEEP on a mike they didn’t know was on how they were going to tax our asses off when they won? That Walter Mondale? He is giving advice on how to make taxes election year gold? My guess is that he is going to propose more class warfare rhetoric and meaningless platitudes despite his advice to donkeys to “In particular, avoid generalities, and clearly link taxes to addressing concrete national needs”, something I would love to see the left try after the fiscal discipline displayed by the demcorats over the first two years of the reign of Obama. That’s going to be a hoot.

But I had to laugh my ass off when Mondale tried to make the argument that he had lost the election but won the argument against Reagan, because Reagan was forced to raise taxes anyway. Well sure Walter, but ignore the fact that Reagan had to allow congress to raise taxes because when they saw that his tax cuts had spurred some massive economic growth and had set the economy on fire, raising government income drastically, they tripled if not outright quadrupled their spending, mostly on the expansion of the welfare state, leaving no other option but to hike taxes. And that’s where we are today. The left has known that despite the fact that almost 50% of Americans don’t pay taxes, taxation, no matter how it is sold by the marxists class warfare mongers, pisses those that work instead of just vote for a living, off.

But please Walter, carry on. And I so hope demcorats follow your advice. Tell the American people that you have promised the impossible and without confiscating most of, if not all our wealth, can’t deliver. Even in the short term. Because that’s the truth. Man, this one sure as hell was one funny April fools joke of an article.

Glurg of the Day

And just because I’ve been somewhat cantankerous lately, here’s something we can all enjoy.  Earlier his week, a dog was found floating in the Pacific three weeks after the tsunami swept him away.  Today, he was reunited with his owner:

Amidst a tragedy of unimaginable proportions and a sea of great sacrifices, we have to savor the moments of triumph.

Obama’s Bracket

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I read this about the President’s NCAA bracket:

Don’t know if you all have been keeping up, but Obama’s NCAA tourney bracket is in the top 0.3% of all 5 million ESPN bracket pickers. It’s a revealing bracket.

While going with the favorites in most cases, he picked a few underdogs in the first (now called “second") round - notably Gonzaga, Richmond and Florida State - who pulled upsets. I thought it encapsulated his overall personality well - clear-headed and realistic about the tendency of events to play out based on historical precedent (e.g. according to the seedings), but willing to buck conventional wisdom when his own judgement argues against it. At the risk of extending the metaphor too far, you get the sense that someone like John McCain’s bracket would be filled with all upsets, and that Mitch McConnell would choose all the higher seeds. Most people aren’t really able to switch back and forth between different mindsets as facilely as Obama. Either the underdog is always going to pull an upset, or the favorite is always going to come out on top.

This is such categorical bullshit that it’s making my keyboard stink.  Anyone remotely familiar with bracketology will recognize the President’s timid strategy as one that is engaged in by numerous newbies.  You pick a few low-level first round upsets to feel daring.  But when push comes to shove, you pick the high seeds to win out.  Obama’ bracket—which, incidentally, is now in ruins like everyone else’s—is a perfect example of the timid forecaster.  It has all four #1 seeds in the final.  It has no seed lower than 3 in the Elite Eight.  It has no seed lower than 5 in the Sweet Sixteen.  My wife picked a bolder bracket.  It was typical Obama—give a long song and dance to prove how smart you are, then do the utterly predictable thing.

I know it’s silly to mention this; that’s why this post is in the “fun and humor” category.  But it does show how far some people will contort themselves to hail the President as some kind of genius.

Trump 2012

Lewis Black:

If Trump is the GOP nominee, I’m voting for Obama.  Seriously.  The man is as ignorant as he is arrogant.  He makes Sarah Palin look like Thomas Jefferson.

LIbs have yet another pair of studies that confirms they are not biased, just smarter!

As usual, we have another study that proves that academia is inundated by leftists, but yet again, these leftists have nothing but excuses as to why that’s the case. The tripe is getting deep. It’s because smarter people are leftists! It’s because leftists care more about education! It’s because leftists are better suited to the academic world. And now we get: It’s because of self selection!

Two studies being released today provide more evidence that bias is not the cause—and the studies provide some additional evidence to back the theory (put forward last year by one of the authors of the new work) that “self-selection" is the primary reason so many academics are liberal. In brief, the self-selection idea holds that some professions have become “typed” in American society in various ways that may relate to gender or class but could also relate to politics. Academe is seen as more liberal, so liberals are more likely to identify being an academic as something to which they aspire. The argument is significant because it does not contest the lopsided political nature of many faculties, but also suggests that higher education is open to those conservative scholars who want careers there.

What a load of crock. No you moron. The reason academia outside of the hard sciences is replete with collectivists is because they have spent the last 5 decades crowding out everyone else that wasn’t one of them. I have friends that would have loved to pursued an academic career that bolted as soon as they realized they would have to compromise their beliefs and kiss the ass of collectivist idiots in order to even stand a chance to make it through the gauntlet. These shitheads don’t tolerate any kind of diversity of opinions, and they certainly do not tolerate anyone that says they are a conservative. Especially one that ends up running circles around them.

Read this article. Peruse the study link. It’s one giant joke of a circle jerk with some leftists trying to make like the problem is of course with everyone else for not being as smart as they are. Puh-leeze!

Liberals show their true colors

Anytime I here some leftoid demand civility and blames the right for inciting violence or being violent, I know that what we are seeing is plain old projection. Then we have the things that happen in the real world, you know the facts that one would use to make a case, that we can then look at. In the latest incidence someone shot out the windows at Washington, D.C. Republican office. Know how I know it was a lib?

Police say the vandalism occurred Tuesday night. All of the windows of the officer were damaged. The executive director of the Republican Committee says an air gun was probably used.

They didn’t even use a real gun. This stuff happens all the time, but the MSM chooses to ignore or downplay it. Fake stories about violent Tea Partiers or demcorats being attack get massive coverage. Of course, we know the accusations against the Tea Partiers are plain old bullshit when you actually look for who is committing the violence. In fact, the left even has pretend Tea Partiers to help them win elections. And when we discover that the attacks against demcorats are insider jobs done by libs hoping to gin up a leftoid’s dream story about conservative anger and violence, if we are lucky to get a correction, it is buried somewhere so the minimal amount of people see it.

Funniest part of this brief story?

Workers believe the shooting was politically related.

Ya think?

The left is pissed that their buddies in the MSM have not been able to spread their propaganda and convince people that the disasters their actions and ideology have straddled us with and are driving us towards in the not too distant future, are all actually not problematic or actually a good thing. The American people just shellacked them in the 2010 election. And more and more people are realizing that these fools are driving us off a cliff at warp speed as they continue to bungle anything and everything they do. Hope & Change has, in the biggest display of irony possible, really turned into most of us hopping we have some change left after these bozos get through ripping us all off. The left is seeing all those fantasies of socialism winning out and dominating the next 2 or 3 generations they bandied about after the 2008 election, go up in smoke in but a short 2 years of them having power. And it drives them bananas. Expect many more angry bb gun attacks. They mean business!

Obama loses out to the French?

Sacre Bleu! Seriously WTF? The French are making Obama look bad. I hope Obama is smart enough to keep US assets out of this though. Let the Europeans do some of the heavy lifting for once. And if Obama really wanted to score some points with me he would tell people the reason the Europeans are looking at military options when they are usually such pussies about everything, is the oil in Lybia. He would then both be consistent about his stance on Iraq and in this case Lybia. Not going to happen though. How sad that the French, the people we joke about losing every war, look thougher than the US does. Guess this is more of the hope & change we were promised.

OH, the irony!

Lybian rebels fighting to rid themselves from Gaddafi, call for help from… WAIT!.... The Cowboy?

Opposition activists called for a no-fly zone, echoing a demand by Libya’s deputy U.N. envoy, who now opposes Gaddafi. “Bring Bush! Make a no fly zone, bomb the planes,” shouted soldier-turned-rebel Nasr Ali, referring to a no-fly zone imposed on Iraq in 1991 by then U.S. President George Bush.

I guess they also already know Obama is a spineless wannabe. Seriously, these people are doing this because despite the 24/7 propaganda from the Islamist and the left, they all know Iraq was rid of it’s dictator by Bush. And that they call for him shows they expect action from him and not the current guy warming the seat in the WH. Heh, the left must be pissed. Obama was supposed to make the world a better place, and he and his people seem almost paralyzed by these changes. No wonder these guys want Bush to come help. Snark! The usual tools in the MSM must be pissed about this revelation, after all, they want you to know the Bush the Lybian is referring to is daddy, not the son whom actually got rid of a dictator. If you were them, hoping to get rid of Gaddafi, would you be calling for the guy that left Saddam in charge, or the guy that actually got rid of Saddam?

Another Oops Moment

I find this more amusing than anything else.  It’s from yet another of Obama’s endless series of “meet with business leaders to find out how this whole ‘capitalism’ thing works” things.

President Obama spent the day in Cleveland on Tuesday touting his interest in hearing directly from the country’s small businesses about job creation.

“Entrepreneurs like each of the ones who are here today create two out of every three new jobs in this country,” Obama said. “So you’re the cornerstones of the community. You’re the sources of pride for working families.”

But out of the 22 members of Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, announced Wednesday, only one of them represents small businesses or has had significant experience running one.

...

But nearly every other business leader on the panel, including its chairman, GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt, represents a large company. The list includes representatives from Comcast and NBC-Universal, a former subsidiary of GE; DuPont; pharma giant Proctor and Gamble; Kodak; and Facebook.

This is probably just a result of a speech-writer and an event organizer not coordinating properly.  But it’s almost Bushian misfire. I guess we should be grateful that Obama didn’t bow to them or something.

AOL management pisses away another large stack of cash.

This time the idiots are paying something around $315 million for Huffington Post of all things. Air America here we come!

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) – AOL Inc will buy Arianna Huffington’s influential website for $315 million, looking to the high-profile liberal pundit to rescue it from the dustbin of Internet history. The move, announced Monday, comes at a hefty premium. AOL is estimated to be paying 32 times earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for The Huffington Post, said Benchmark Co analyst Clayton Moran.

Similar content deals, such as Hellman & Friedman’s acquisition of Internet Brands in September 2010, typically go for eight to 12 times earnings, said Moran. “AOL just spent 40 percent of their cash for very little near-term return,” said Moran. AOL expects Huffington Post to generate around $10 million in profit before interest and taxes and see savings of around $20 million meaning it would be valued at around 10 times 2011 profits.

The Internet company’s name is still a proxy for expensive mergers gone wrong following the unraveling of its $350 billion merger with Time Warner Inc in 2000. Once worth $163 billion, today AOL has a market capitalization of around $2.3 billion. Shares fell 3.4 percent to close at $21.19 on Monday.

Guess many AOL investors figured out this lefty politically motivated move to keep another lefty site bleeding red from going under isn’t worth the risk and showed that. I am glad I don’t own AOL shares. If you do, you might want to shed them too. Maybe The Huff Post will start streaming pr0n for AOl in teh future. That’s where the big bucks are.

Update: Who knows? Maybe they are intending to be “good corporate citizens, like Obama wants every company to be, instead of serving the interests of their shareholders. Hey Muirgy! Look! The marxist/statist/elitist twit thinks corporations are evil if they don’t give away their profits just like you do.

Things that make you go hmmmmm?

YUCK! What caught my attention was this however:

According to a police report, the 28-year-old victim was shopping with her daughter in the store’s cereal aisle when she was approached by Garcia, who worked in the store’s dairy department. After accepting Garcia’s offer of a yogurt sample, the woman immediately thought the sample tasted “gross and disgusting” and, cops reported, “said it tasted like ‘semen.’”

Emphasis mine. She must have gotten around even if she didn’t like the taste. Reminds me of the blond in one of my many classes from way back when which asked the professor why if semen was glocose based it tasted salty. Obama when reached for comment said there was a provision in the new Government Healthcare takeover thinggy to deal with just this situation or something.

For when a libtard tells you that capitalism & evil corporations are the problem

Here is some nice ammunition to prove them the party where corporations get the big favors from, in return for big campaign funds of course, is the donkey party. Not only do they get favors, they get to help government make the rules to squash their competition.

President Obama today will name General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt chairman of the new Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, the White House announced overnight. The Jobs and Competitiveness Council’s establishment signals that the president believes the economic recovery has entered a new, more productive phase. It will advise the president on job creation policies and on the establishment of a long-term growth strategy. Its composition was not immediately available.

The creation of the new entity coincides with the early February dissolution of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board (PERAB), which was tasked principally with fixing the financial markets and restoring the American economy to equilibrium. Tonight, the administration formally announced the resignation of PERAB Chairman Paul Volcker. Immelt was one of 17 members of the board.

As I have mentioned repeatedly: GE is in bed with the left. It’s why it sheds jobs in the US and sends them overseas with impunity, gets big tax payer funded subsidies in return for that, and in general can be found with it’s nose firmly planted up some democrat stooge’s behind.

Immelt, GE’s CEO since September 2001, met with the president earlier this week and attended Wednesday’s state dinner with Chinese President Hu Jintao. He will guide the president on a tour of GE headquarters in Schenectady, N.Y., today. Immelt, a Republican, donated to both Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain during the last presidential cycle, but not President Obama, according to Bloomberg.

Heh, he is doing it all to help America!
