Grumbles From The Grave

Jerry Pournelle on Palin:

Palin will undoubtedly stay where she has always been, conservative personally and libertarian-republican politically. Were matters left to her, she would leave a great number of issues to the states—as would I.  I’d rather see her President than McCain, but we live with the choices we have.

Mr. Heinlein once speculated that we ought to reserve high political office for women with children because they tend to see things a bit more realistically. While I didn’t necessarily agree with him, I never won the argument with him. On the other hand, Robert used to take positions for the sheer fun of it. (Actually I think he’d have preferred that anyone elected be a woman with children who could solve quadratic equations in her head, but he never went quite that far in public statements. Ginny never had children, but she could certainly do the math....)

In other words, methinks Sullivan doth protest too much. I sometimes wonder what Heinlein would have made of this election. He was an avowed libertarian and some of his beliefs were decidedly ahead of his time.

Good post WVR, interesting source, and I agree about Sullivan.

Chaos Manor is a great place, One of the first places i went when oi got on the internet all those years ago. Jerry has a unique insite, and has a nice following people that provide a lot of good opinion ,and facts on the subject Jerry writes about.
Im very glad that Jerry also seem to be beating his cancer.

The Democrats seem to be really, really confused about how to handle Sarah Palin. Today John Kerry compared her to Dick Cheney.  WTF? Say what you will about Cheney, on paper he was one of the most experienced VP picks ever made—not only had he served something like five-six terms in Congress, eventually becoming House Minority Whip; he served as Gerald Ford’s White House Chief of Staff as well as being a former Secretary of Defense during wartime.

So which is it? Is Sarah Palin totally unqualified, the “least experienced vice-presidential nominee in modern election history,” or is she going to be running the McCain administration behind the scenes like Darth Cheney?

Either way, how I see it, she sure as hell beats John Kerry’s own veep selection from 2004. Edwards was a one-term do-nothing Senator with a sleazy trial lawyer past.

And speaking of Veep picks…

There was some griping on here a while back about Maverick perhaps exaggerating the story of how he and his wife came to adopt his daughter Bridgette. Well, now, Scrappin’ Joe Biden’s been caught stretching the truth about the car crash that killed his wife and young daughter. It’s absolutely a horrible story, and if this were the only time Biden embellished the facts surrounding a personal story, I would leave it alone. But he does this with just about every story he tells. He’s a braggart and a pathological liar—hardly the Grand Old Man of the Senate that the Dems are suddenly trying to turn him into.

I liked Sullivan during the 2000 season and beyond but then in 2004 Bush came out against Gay marriage and he just lost it..I stopped reading him after he tried to push some LA Times polls that had Kerry way ahead but that had already been fisked by the entire blog nation as bullsh*t and this time around watching his obama vodoo and intellectual dishonesty is beyond breathtaking
