One Down, One To Go
by Lee

It took 30 years, but one group of terrorists has realized that terrorism doesn’t work.

The IRA has formally ordered an end to its armed campaign and says it will pursue exclusively peaceful means.
In a long-awaited statement, the republican organisation said it would follow a democratic path ending more than 30 years of violence.

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams said the move was a “courageous and confident initiative” and that the moment must be seized.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said it was a “step of unparalleled magnitude”.

“It is what we have striven for and worked for throughout the eight years since the Good Friday Agreement,” he said.

Are you listening, Palestinians?  Are you listening, al-Qaeda?  You’ll be able to score the occasional victory against us, but you’re going to lose the war.  Unfortunately, it might take 30 years for you to realize it.

This happened not a moment too soon, either.  The UK has a whole new slew of terrorist vermin to deal with.

Good Friday Agreement

Was Clinton involved with that?  Is this happenning just in time for Hillary to take advantage of it? ("we helped to end terrorism in N Ireland, and we can do it in the ME too")

It’s a shame the IRA devolved into nothing more than terrorists.  They started out much better than that.

On the other hand, maybe the IRA thinks that the new breed of terrorists will do their job for them.

I think the IRA leaders realize that they don’t want to be any where near the word “terrorist” or “terrorism” these days.  Otherwise, they risk being lumped in with the Islamofascists.  And, after all, blowing up and burning kids to death is really just not the kind of poster image you want for your rights group.  OH, and once the Islamofascists have had their way with the English . . . the Irish are next!

The difference is the IRA was making a political statement, they weren,t religious fanatics. Al-Quaida won’t stop until we’re all dead, they’re all dead or we all canvert to islam.

That is something Bush can take some credit for, tighetining up on American funding of the IRA since September 11th is one of the good things that he has done. That meant the IRA have little choice, with less and less support anywhere - and less and less money coming from the states to pay for their terrorist acts - as well as a political framework to work themselves in - this was a sensible option for them.

I think that a representative of the SAS meet with a representative of the IRA....

SAS: This is a War on Terror, not a War on the Taliban, or Al Qaida. We’ve been bombed twice, and if it were any of you, well, you wouldn’t be here right now, but if you believe that the British are not going to retaliate against the IRA or Sein Fenn, for any terrorism, if you believe that we are weak, well your wrong.

IRA (with a scared look on their faces): Yes sir, please, please, don’t kill us, please.

SAS: That’s a good boy, now.

Ben, I tihnk you will find it was a bit more like “Piss of, no more money from us any more”. Something that Britian has been asing for the last 20 years or so. In my mind, this was one of the conditions Blair attached in private to joining in on Iraq.

You can’t differentiate with them.  I once heard a Moslem deny that there was official Islamic state terrorism because there were no Islamic states.  Why?  Because all supposed Islamic states have borders, and the true Islamic State has no borders - i.e., it’s everywhere.  What they do in the name of politics is for religion, and vice versa.

Why can’t we get along with them, and have them blow their shit up?  Theyre good at it, and maybe they will cut the crap if their communities are blown up, hell, you dont even have to train them, their already trained, just give them some dough, and send them in, give em a taste of their own medicine!
