Pull the Trigger
by Lee

After the Miers disaster, I was really hoping to see a united front between Congress and the White House.  Check out what Bill Frist just said.

Obstructing judicial nominees should be a thing of the past. If the Democrats want to obstruct a nominee and not give us our constitutional right of advice and consent, an up-or-down vote, we’ll take it to the mat. If a filibuster comes back, I’m not going to hesitate to employ the constitutional option to get an up-or-down vote.

He’s on the record now.  The Republicans are a majority party, it’s time they started acting like it.

Since Frist was such a fan of Miers, why didn’t he give her an up-or-down vote?

Uhhhh… because she withdrew her nomination?

because she withdrew her nomination?

Even before the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings (a necessary first step), I might add.

I mean, REALLY, Les. If you’re going to attempt to criticize, you should at least PRETEND to know what the hell you’re talking about, okay?

Wouldn’t that really narrow down what she would be able to say?

Good to see someone on the right side of the aisle finally got a pair transplanted.  Maybe they could refer McCain to the surgeon that did the operation.  Hillary could probably donate the pair he needs.

The Republicans are a majority party, it’s time they started acting like it.

The worst that could happen is a bunch get tossed out next year.  They could get a ton of legislation run through before then. And with a theoretical conservative leaning SCOTUS, much of it would be accepted as constituional.  And after the Roberts hearing, it is very evident that Dems respect precendent.

Gooooood...set the tone right out of the gate and be sure to follow up with the big stick.

I think even the Constitutional option is a pussy option. Why are these Republicans so scared of the filibuster, and cowering in the corner like scared mice? If the Democrats filibuster this reasonable nominee Sam Alito, they will get slaughtered by the media and the Republicans. Let it happen; I want to watch.

I think we should demand that they force the filibuster. An honest to God filibuster, aired live and commercial-free on C-SPAN2, wherein the Senator is not even allowed to leave the floor to take a piss.

The first (and every other) time he pauses, Frist or one of the GOP leadership should be right there to demand cloture.

If he lasts a whole day, good for him. He WON’T last two.

Amen.  The pussy libs would throw a fit if they actually had to attend the Senate (hell, even Kerry might have to show up) in order to enforce their filibuster.

Seriously.

The longest stretch of continuous time where I had to stay awake and (reasonably) alert and constantly under observation was 74 hours (during a REFTRA in San Diego), but even I got 5-minute smoke and piss breaks from time to time, and people would bring me sandwiches that I WAS allowed a few moments to eat between crises…

but even I got 5-minute smoke and piss breaks from time to time, and people

Give an empty 2 liter bottle and they can use that one the floor.

Make em earn their damn salaries for a change.

A good old fashioned filibuster would triple C-SPAN ratings.  I would watch.  And it’s about time Frist even did some tough talking.

OMG,C-Span could charge for that.I would pay just to see the swimmer have to go without a drink and get the DTs on national TV.
