The Year That Will Be
by Lee

I’m packing and drinking and eating quesadillas right now.  I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  Get FUBAR as much as you like, but make sure you make it home alive.  Let’s hope that 2006 doesn’t turn out to be a sucktacular crapfest.

Will the terrorist insurgency be cracked?
Will Bush regain his stature as president?
Will the economy continue to improve?
Will Lee be able to get a date?

Find out in 2006!

My predictions for 2006:

Gas prices will dip below $2.00 between February and April, but rise above $2.00 in May and stay there for the rest of the year (average prices, that is).

The Stock Market will finally find some footing and break through 11,000 in February and waver between 10,800 and 11,500 for the rest of the year on a weak housing market.

The insurgency will show slowdown signs in April.  Iraqi troop numbers will rise and start to show surprising success against the insurgency in early 2006, but will only be reported in August as more US troop reductions are announced.

SCOTUS Judge Stevens will pass away, giving Bush a third nominee to the court.  Due to the lack of news coming from Iraq and the moderate economic growth, Democrats will focus debate on the judge and social issues.  The results will backfire, and they will lose 3 seats in the Senate in 2006.

Lee will get 3 dates, one with some supermodel, who will neglect to ever call him again after he rants about IDer’s for 30 minutes over dessert.

The St. Louis Cardinals will finally win the World Series.

Mission Impossible III will bomb horribly at the box office.  Tom Cruise will jump on top of Katie in labor and proclaim his love for her.  The baby will emerge, and the new parents will be hard pressed to explain why the baby is black.

Scandal in Hollywood as Oprah converts to Scientology over the summer and devotes one of her episodes to the “Church”.  Ratings plummet, and her book club suffers a setback when she recommneds “Dianetics” and “Battlefield Earth”.

And finally, I will post far less frequently starting in the summer as I move to a new state and new job.

Happy New Year, folks.

As long as we’re speculating:

Dems’ll probably move farther into the pulloutnow ideaology, and Bush will continue with the more-fact-less-soundbytes plan. Eventually, as more of the country is handed over to the Iraqis, US troops will come home in large numbers, saying that the war was a smashing success. However, most media outlets will ask us to “remember the fallen and wounded,” trying desperately to keep the war in a negative light. Most voices of celebration will not be reported. Seeing this, liberals will jump into saying “Bush pulled out too soon,” and their selective memory will conveniently forget that they were the ones pushing this plan. As long as there is controversy and not unity, there will be Democrats.

My prediction is a query…
Will our idea of democracy and the Iraqi idea of democracy be reconcilable?  I wonder because I don’t get a sense of the different factions even wanting to be Iraqi’s first.  And I think the status of women is in for religious reconstruction.

Will our idea of democracy and the Iraqi idea of democracy be reconcilable?

Define your opinion of the differences between the two, because it seems to me like you’re asking “Will our idea of sunshine and the Iraqi idea of sunshine be reconcilable?”

Here are my predictions for ‘06.....

Adolf Hilter will be cloned by a wacky South Korean scientist, he’ll have a baby with a little mustache as proof.

Saddam Hussein will become a scientologist, his e meter readings will be off the scale, he will be elected the next leader of the scientology movement, and promptly kill Tom Cruise.

Jesus will come to America, we will promptly send him back to his home in Mexico.

At 12:33 est, I’ll be sitting on my couch watching Dumb & Dumber on TBS, hey, what do you know, that one came true.
