Giffords Shot

Let’s hope she pulls through:

At least 12 people were shot at a Tuscon grocery store on Saturday, and U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among them, a Democratic party source told CNN.

Giffords was holding a constituent meeting at the grocery store when the shooting occurred, according to a schedule posted on her website.
Neither Giffords’ condition nor that of any of the other wounded was immediately available. The Democratic source described the situation as “pretty serious.”

I’ll keep this thread updated as events warrant.

Update: Hot Air is keeping up with the news, including the identity of the killer and his Youtube channel.  This will, of course, be blamed on the Tea Party—that the Congresswoman was on the crosshairs on Sarah Palin’s map doesn’t help.  But this guy looks like a deranged nut who was against everyone.

Update: Reports are that she was shot in the head at nearly point-blank range.  If she survives, she’s got a long road back.  Also, at least half a dozen are dead including a 9-year-old child and a federal judge.  What disgustingly vile act.

Update: Philip Klein laments that this may put even more distances between Congressmen and their constituents.  That may be, but it doesn’t have to be.  This was a rare and isolated incident.  Each year, hundreds of members of Congress spend time with constituents without a constant phalanx of bodyguards.  It’s easy for me to say, of course; but I would love to see our Congressmen come out and say that they are not going to live in fear of their own constituents.
