Quick Hit Wednesday

My safari tabs are getting too numerous to blog about everything.  So here’s some quick hits for stuff to talk about:

Queensland is getting hammered again.  See here for a visualization of just how big the cyclone is.  This could end up as bad as New Orleans in 2005, only without the incompetence and looting.

The Egyptian thing continues to rock the Middle East with Jordan now getting rid of their cabinet.  I remain concerned that this seems confined to semi-non-evil regimes and not truly dangerous ones.

I couldn’t think of anything to say last week on the 25th anniversary of the Challenger disaster.  I do think this is a fitting memorial.  And I keep wondering when we are going to have a space program worthy of their sacrifice.

It should come as no surprise to anyone who has following the Obama’s Administration’s pro-union stances that they are stopping any further efforts to take airport security away from TSA.  It’s not just security theater, friends.  It’s security theater and pork.

Update: Reports are that Mubarak’s decision to not seek re-election was, at least in part, stimulated by diplomatic back-channels from the US.  I continue to think Obama’s doing the right thing here, trying to ride the whirlwind as best as he possibly can.  This is another situation where the worst thing the US could do for the side they support is to say we support it.
