The Best and the Worst From Tucson

If you really want to feel horrible, read the WaPo in Christina-Taylor Green, the 9-year-old murdered yesterday.  That’s the real tragedy of the Giffords shooting:

Christina-Taylor Green’s short life was pinned between two national tragedies: She was born on Sept. 11, 2001, and she died Saturday as a gunman apparently targeting Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) shot at least 18 people in Tucson.

Christina-Taylor, a budding elementary school politician, was among those killed. The third-grader had gone to meet Giffords with a neighbor when a gunman, identified by authorities as 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, opened fire at a political meet-and-greet outside a grocery store. Christina-Taylor died at University Medical Center.

The 9-year-old, who had big brown eyes and long brown hair, had recently been elected to the student council at Mesa Verde Elementary School. She had been interested in politics early on, her father, John Green said Saturday night in an interview with the Arizona Daily Star.

She was a good speaker, athletic and patriotic, her mother, Roxanna Green, told the paper. Christina-Taylor was inspired by her birth on the day of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, her family said. She was one of 50 babies born on the date featured in a book called “Faces of Hope.”

Someone who would shoot a politician is scum.  Someone who would shoot a child is a monster.

Now if you want to really be angry, try this:

A top House Democrat said the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) should change how members of Congress are screened at airports.

“I really believe that that is the place where we feel the most ill at ease, is going through airports,” Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who serves as assistant minority leader in the House, said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Clyburn called for the Transportation Security Administration, which administers airport security checkpoints, to interact “a little better” with the Capitol Hill Police.

“We’ve had some incidents where TSA authorities think that congresspeople should be treated like everybody else,” he said. “Well, the fact of the matter is, we are held to a higher standard in so many other areas, and I think we need to take a hard look at exactly how the TSA interact with members of Congress.”

There is not emoticon for what I felt reading this after almost crying reading about little Christina.  Airport screening is one of the safest places in America right now.  There is no danger that anyone is going to be shot there.  This has absolutely no relevance at all to the horrible tragedy that just occurred in Arizona.  This is a self-important political fucktard trying to milk a tragedy to give him and his fellows political fucktards special privileges over the rest of us.

Fuck you, Clyburn.
